Record Catches – Your Fishing Diary with Weather Data
Every catch tells a story. With the AngelStratege fishing app you document not only what you caught – but also under which conditions. Your fishing diary links every catch with weather data, air pressure and your fishing spot.
Your catches and bites flow together with the weather data into the analysis. AngelStratege identifies under which conditions you were successful at your spots – and evaluates future fishing conditions on this basis.
What Gets Recorded?
AngelStratege fills in much of this for you automatically: the current time, your GPS position, the matching fishing spot and the weather at your catch location. Fish species, measurements, bait and water conditions, on the other hand, are yours to judge – observations no app can make for you.
Fish Data (Manual)
- Photos: from your gallery
- Fish species: autocomplete from your personal fish species database
- Weight: in kilograms
- Length: in centimeters
- Catch & Release: released or kept?
- Bait: autocomplete, which bait was successful?
Time, Location & Weather (Automatic)
- Time: pre-filled with the current time, editable
- Position: captured via GPS, correctable via the map icon if needed
- Fishing spot: automatically assigned from your position
- Weather at catch location: air temperature, wind direction & speed, air pressure – calculated independently for each individual catch
Log several catches fast: The "Copy" button in the catch editor instantly creates a new catch entry with the same details – fish species, weight, length, depth, bait, catch & release, note and water conditions are all carried over. Time, position and weather, on the other hand, are captured fresh, so they match the actual moment of the new catch. Perfect if you're perch fishing, say, and land several fish in quick succession without wanting to re-enter every field each time.
Water Conditions (Manual)
These are values no weather service can provide – you enter them yourself, optionally, right when recording the catch: depth, water temperature, cloud cover, water turbidity and water level including trend (falling, stable, rising).
Water turbidity and water level in particular are often underestimated, yet they noticeably affect your catch success. Enter them consistently, and AngelStratege's analysis will reveal exactly which water conditions worked best for you.
Note & Position
In the note field you capture what numbers can't express – fighting behavior, unusual circumstances or anything else worth remembering. Position and fishing spot are filled in automatically by AngelStratege; if your actual location differs, you can correct it directly via the map icon.
Bites Without Catch
Not every bite leads to a catch - but every bite is valuable information! A bite shows you that the fish are active and responding to your bait.
For bites you record:
- Time: When was the bite?
- Depth: At what depth?
- Bait: On which bait?
- Notes: Was it a cautious nibble or a hard strike?
Why record bites? Bites indicate activity - even when no fish is hooked. They are an important signal for fish behavior and are included in the assessment. A fishing session without bites is considered less successful, but still provides a relevant basis for comparison.
Fish Species
Depending on the country and water, we fish for very different species. The list of fish species is virtually endless.
AngelStratege initially comes with a small list of predefined fish species. You can expand this list in two ways:
- Directly when recording: The species field is an autocomplete field. If you enter a new species that doesn't exist yet, the system saves it automatically. The next time you catch something, it will be available in the suggestions list.
- In species management: Via the "Fish Species" screen you can also edit and expand your list independently of catches.
Tip: The autocomplete field shows you matching suggestions as you type. This helps you quickly find the right species and avoid typos or duplicate entries.
Manage Your Catches
In the catch list you see all your previous catches at a glance – with photo, fish species, measurements and the weather conditions at the time of the catch. You can:
- Filter by fishing spot
- Filter by fish species
- Filter by species group
- Filter by time period (From / To)
Analyzing Your Catches
In the statistics you can see:
- Which fish species you catch most often
- At what times you are most successful
- Which baits work best
- The distribution of catches by depth
Why Every Catch Counts – Evaluate Catches by Weather and Air Pressure
In most fishing apps, a catch is simply a number in a list. In AngelStratege, every catch is automatically linked with the weather conditions at its own location and time. This means you not only know that you caught a pike – but also at what air pressure, what wind speed and what cloud cover conditions.
Over time, this reveals clear patterns: perhaps you catch your target fish most reliably when air pressure is between 1010 and 1020 hPa, or only when the wind is calm. These insights are only possible because AngelStratege automatically stores the complete weather data alongside every catch.
And equally important: bites without a landed fish are also valuable data. They show that the fish were active – and thus contribute to a more accurate bite index for your spots. The more consistently you document your catches and bites, the more precise the fishing app's analysis of your fishing success becomes.
