Species Groups Fishing – Target Fish Analysis by Fish Groups

With species groups for fishing you organize related fish species into your own categories for targeted target fish analysis. This analysis by fish groups allows you to manage fish species in a way that matches your fishing style and evaluate catch statistics by fish group – making your evaluations more meaningful and analysis easier.

The Problem

You fish for carp and have caught various types over time: Common Carp, Mirror Carp, Wild Carp, maybe also Grass Carp. In your catch list, these are all separate entries.

If you now want to know: "How successful am I at carp fishing?", you would have to evaluate each carp type individually and add them up.

The Solution: Species Groups

Create a group "Carp" and assign all carp species to it. From now on you can:

Examples of Useful Groups

By Type

  • Carp (Mirror, Common, Wild, Grass Carp)
  • Trout (Brown, Rainbow, Lake Trout)
  • Whitefish (Roach, Rudd, Bream)

By Fishing Method

  • Predator Fish (Pike, Zander, Perch)
  • Coarse Fish (Carp, Tench, Bream)
  • Bait Fish (Roach, Bleak, Gudgeon)

By Habitat

  • Bottom Fish (Catfish, Eel, Burbot)
  • Surface Fish (Chub, Asp)

Creating a Group

  1. Open "Species Groups" in the menu
  2. Tap "New Species Group"
  3. Enter a name (e.g. "Carp")
  4. Add the desired fish species
  5. Done!

Using Groups in Evaluations

In the catch list you can switch between "Species" and "Species Group". If you select a group, you see all catches of all included species.

Flexible: Fish species can be in multiple groups. A Mirror Carp can be in "Carp" and "Coarse Fish" at the same time.

Benefits

Targeted Evaluation by Fish Species Group

The real strength of species groups shows in the evaluations. Instead of scrolling through a long list of individual species, you can filter your catch statistics by group with a single tap. This makes it possible to answer questions like: "How successful am I overall at carp fishing?" or "Do I catch more predator fish in summer or autumn?"

Combined with the spot-based analysis in AngelStratege, species groups become even more powerful. You can compare which fish groups you catch most successfully at which waters – and recognize patterns that help you plan your fishing trips more effectively and improve your fishing success.
